Members of the diplomatic community, government officials, students, and mallgoers recently had the rare opportunity to watch a performance of The Little Singers of Monaco, who serenaded shoppers at the SM City North EDSA Skydome and the SM Mall of Asia Atrium. They also made a stop at the Shrine of Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life in the MOA complex, where they sang sacred music during the 10:30 AM Mass.
One of the world’s most renowned boys’ choirs, the group is under the royal patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco. Their Philippine debut performance is part of its 2013 Asian tour. Known as the “little singing ambassadors of Monaco,” the choir was founded in 1974 under the directorship of Philippe Debat. It, however, traces its roots to the 18th century when the tradition of children’s vocal groups was first established in Monaco. Since its inception, the choir has performed in 35 countries and been featured in 15 albums.
The distinct sound of The Little Singers of Monaco emanates from the smooth blending of angelic voices by its 28 members whose ages range from 10 to 18. The group’s program encompasses works written for children’s or men’s voices by French classical masters Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Nicholas Bernier, as well as German composers Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn, among others.
Their repertoire is composed of pious works from the Baroque period, romantic songs, folk songs from Monaco, and French famous songs.
The Little Singers of Monaco’s Philippine tour was presented by SM Supermalls, the Consulate General of the Principality of Monaco, SinagTala Management for Filipino Performing Artists, in cooperation with the Far Eastern University and the Manila Pavilion, DZFE 98.7 is the official media partner.
