SM Cinemas bring the Digital and IMAX experience to Davao

SM City Lanang Premier truly is a mall that has so much more as SM Cinema brings a larger than life experience to Davao, with the opening of the first IMAX Theater in Mindanao.  It also brings the entertainment level to new heights with five digital theaters and one Centerstage for live performances

Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Ballet Philippines President Margie Moran were the guests of honor during the opening of these state of the art cinemas.  SM officials led by SM Prime Holdings President Hans T. Sy, Vice President Marissa Fernan and WATC SVP Ed Tejerero welcomed them together with Regional Operations Cinema Manager Ed Bayani, and Theater Manager Noelle Martinez.

IMAX is the world’s leading film entertainment technology, which utilizes laser-aligned digital audio feed in addition to a revolutionary projection system that enhances image quality and display, delivering unparalleled and realistic sound and visuals. SM pioneered bringing in the IMAX concept to the Philippines when the SM Mall of Asia opened in 2006, bringing a new way of watching movies for Filipinos.

Davaoenos will enjoy watching films like Under the Sea and Dinosaurs 3D the IMAX way, as well as The Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, Frankenweenie, Skyfall, and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey for the rest of the year. IMAX movies scheduled for 2012 include Hansel and Gretel: The Witch Hunters; A Good Day to Die Hard 5; Oz: The Great and the Powerful; Jack the Giant Killer; GI Joe 2: Retaliation 3D; Man of Steel; and 300: Battle of Artemisia.

The digital theaters, on the other hand, are equipped with technology that delivers razor sharp and life like images for the ultimate in picture quality.  Digital theater technology delivers a true digital picture with incredible clarity and vibrant colors every show by casting a range of 35 million colors, a feat that can never be equaled by any ordinary movie film.

Just as it brought IMAX technology to the Philippines, SM Cinema took a giant leap ahead of the digital pack when it became the first cinema to bring the cutting edge motion effect seat simulators in December 2009.  With seats that move with every action packed movie scene, SM Digital Theaters add a whole new dimension to the cinematic experience.

Along with its cutting edge technology, the cinemas in SM Lanang Premier have innovative designs like a lobby with 3D wall effects. SM Cinema Lanang is also equipped with the turnstile system to facilitate the automated entry to all its entrances.  The turnstile system promotes paperless ticketing. Instead of paper, SM Cinema issues cine access cards. The cine access cards are single entry cards. One can also get a realoadable card which is referred to as the E-PLUS (Entertainment, Privileges, Upgrades and Surprises) card. This allows patrons to load credits on the prepaid card.  It is also upgradeable to loyalty card so that for every transaction at SM Cinema and Snack Time, e-PLUS cardholders earn reward points that are redeemable at any e-PLUS booth.

SM Cinemas at SM City Lanang Premier will have 6 digital Theaters with 2,240 seats, and an IMAX theater with 457 seating capacity.

SM Cinemas are located at the second floor level of SM City Lanang Premier.
