KaPEACEtahan 2012 AT SM CITY NORTH EDSA

The Block, SM City North EDSA hosts KaPEACEtahan on September 21, 2012. This annual festive gathering of various sectors of society celebrates the International Day of Peace and National Peace Consciousness Month as declared in Proclamation No. 675.

“Ako. Ikaw. Tayo. Magkakaiba, Nagkakaisa sa Kapayapaan.” is the theme of this year’s National Peace Consciousness Month. The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process(OPAPP) headed by Sec. Teresita Quintos-Deles aims to emphasize the importance of unity despite diversity and the individual participation of each Filipino in moving the peace process forward through this celebration.

“As our government continues to work hard in bringing peace to the country, I would like to remind us all that each one of us have this important role to play to achieve our goal to a just and lasting peace. You may not be directly involved in actual peace works but you can do your share,” said Deles

The whole day celebration of KaPEACEtahan 2012 features two important events, the Job Fair and Serbisyong Bayan, and the KaPEACEtahan Gala Program. The job fair, organized by the Department of Labor and Employment, convenes 29 Employers that offers local and foreign job opportunities. According to DOLE-NCR Assistant Regional Director Nelson Hornilla, the job fair offers more than 2,500 job vacancies with 71 applicants hired-on-the-spot and 110 were considered for final evaluation. The Serbisyong Bayan Center that houses different government agencies like TESDA, BIR, NSO, PhilHealth, GSIS, and Red Cross offers mobile services and assistance to the public.

National Peace Ambassadors Ramon Bautista, Megan Young, Kiray Celis, Igi Boy, and Mikael Daez  were guests of honor during the gala program. They were recently named by President Noynoy Aquino as National Peace Ambassadors of the “I am for Peace” campaign under OPAPP that's main goal is to unite for one meaningful cause: peace. The “I am for Peace” campaign seeks to engage all sectors of society in sustaining support for the country’s peace process and strengthen the government’s peace building platform. It will also mobilize social engagements and information dissemination especially on the significant developments and milestones of the on-going Mindanao peace talks.

Cultural performances were also another hightlight of the KaPEACEtahan. Award-winning musician and composer Diwa de Leon performs his self-composed song “Stormy Night” with the hegalong, a two-stringed ethnic instrument. 2011 Talentadong Pinoy Grand Winner Joseph The Sand Artist amuses the crowd with his sand drawings reflecting the peace and development efforts of the government through the PAMANA program. Colegeio de San Juan de Letran Filipiniana Dance Company performs a montage of indigenous dances from all over the country highlighting unity in diversity. Virlanie Children's Choir renders a beautiful and soulful performance.

To conclude the 9th National Peace Consciousness Month,  Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Sec. Teresita Quintos-Deles led the Pledge for Peace with SM City North EDSA Building Administration Officers Miguel Emmanuel B. Gaspi and Mike Uy, SMNE Mall Manager Ms. Hershe Angeles, AFP Peace Process Office's Ma. Esperanza Muyot-Liamco,  AFP Peace Process Office's Lt. Col. Claro B.
